"It cannot be an instrument in the hands of criminals": Arturo Zaldívar on the new Amparo Law

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The injunction “cannot be an instrument in the hands of criminals,” said former minister Arturo Zaldívar, who affirmed that the legislative changes do not imply retroactivity.
The general coordinator of policy and government said that amparos must protect human rights and that this new Amparo Law should not represent setbacks or limitations on people's rights.
Zaldívar affirmed that the justice system must be strengthened and made more accessible to citizens, and argued that there is currently a "disinformation campaign."
The official emphasized that, regarding firm tax credits, the new rules seek to prevent delaying processes that allow tax debtors to avoid paying the treasury for several years.
The changes approved by Congress, the former minister said, respond to a constitutional requirement as part of judicial reform.
"Making it consistent with the constitutional requirement for judicial reform, making it more agile, shortening processing times, and taking a decisive step toward digital justice. In the medium term, digital justice will be a very important solution for reducing costs and streamlining amparo proceedings, both for the federal judiciary and for those seeking justice."
He added that "it will be a more modern, closer, and more accessible justice system; that is the primary purpose of the amparo trial in this reform."
